The Professional Year is a structured professional development program combining formal learning and workplace experience. If a graduate who wants to receive points towards their permanent residency under the Skilled Migration pathway, but has difficulty achieving four 7-scores in IELTS Test, or is older than 32 years old so cannot get 30 immigration points, a Professional Year training course is worthy of consideration to take.

PY has become a migration pathway for many accounting graduates would consider, and also provides a new solution for those who are suffering from IELTS Test.
As for IT graduates, according to the current migration assessment criteria of ACS (Australian Computer Society), they must have at least one-year work experience or complete the PY course if they want to be eligible to apply for PR (Permanent Residence) skills assessment.
First, upon completion of at least two-year study in Australia, graduates can apply for TR visa, which is a prerequisite for the application of PY. Even if not for migration, graduates can also gain opportunities of local practice in Australia through PY. Generally speaking PY institutions have subtle relationship to different levels of occupation units, so the right PY institution can help students find a right practice unit.
It is suggested that students try not to ask for leave. If attendance is not up to the standard, it will directly affect the student to graduate from the program.
Literally, students need to take the internship arranged by school, which after all is part of the course paid for by students. However, the student can fill an application form to clarify that he or she wants to go the practice unit found by him or herself. Then the person in charge will go to the practice unit you prefer and analyze if it is appropriate for the student to take internship there. Or else, the school will require the student to complete the 12-week internship in their assigned company.
